About J.

J. is a medical officer who graduated from the main university on the sunny tropical island of Singapore. True to his country of birth, he’s grown up to be effectively bilingual (English and Mandarin) despite a future career that also demands competence in Hokkien, Cantonese and Bahasa Melayu. He hopes to be able to cut people up (and save lives!) in the future.

Views on Food
Food falls into two categories: nourishment and enjoyment. For nourishment, J. eats healthily (think yong tau foo and vegetables) but what he really, really lives for is good food.
Coffee is drunk for the taste, not for the caffeine. Dark chocolate is heavenly and white chocolate is a misnomer. People who drink beer just to get pissed are wasteful, both of the beer and of their health.

Views on books
Life is too short to read lousy books. And any book worth reading is worth reading well, the words to be rolled about the tongue, the imagery to be savoured, the thoughts to be pondered slowly.

Views on sports
J. thinks that professional mixed martial arts (MMA) fights are definitely much higher on the awesome scale than professional wrestling (yawn). Basketball’s fun too, and F1 racing can be entertaining to watch.
