Hi J,

I chanced upon your blog when I did a google search on where to get a stethoscope in Singapore. Do you have any recommendation on where to possibly get one?

I'm not a med student or grad. I'm looking for one to be use on my dogs. One of my senior dog is diagnosed with allergy asthma where there will be fluid build up in the lung. I need one to monitor his heart lung daily and send him to the vet when there is fluid. I do have other dog to compare the abnormalities.

Appreciate if you can advise on recommending the right one to get for the intention.

Much thanks!

[...] Stethoscopes for Clinical Years The irony is that most medical students now carry better stethoscopes than their tutors, not that most tutors of surgical discplines really mind though. [...]

Here our medical society holds a yearly medical instruments sale. Since we buy in bulk, the prices tend to be slightly cheaper.

You really just have to try the stethoscopes out, either from your seniors or from a fair. The general consensus among my classmates was that Welch-Allyn is excellent for auscultating breath sounds in particularl, it amplifying all sounds including ambient noise, while the Littmann Cardio III is great for heart sounds, naturally.

Hope you come to a satisfactory decision!

It's not a bad idea to still buy one, particularly if you're planning on doing rotations in paediatrics in HO/MO years. I do regret not paying a bit extra for a quality stethoscope though, though at the time I wasn't considering the Harvey Elite.

which reminds me. i'd meant to get the 3M Littman paediatric stethoscope (with my Classic II, the combined cost will be $10 less than that of the Class III). But ach, I didn't think that I'd be doing paediatrics so early on!
